About Us

FLC was established in 2004, with another location opening in 2009 by the same operator.
FLC views the Ministry of Education’s How Does Learning Happen (HDLH): Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years, and Early Learning for Every Child Today (ELECT), as excellent documentation and support of how we have gained knowledge and improved our centre over the years. As well, it is a confirmation that FLC has been meeting the needs of our children and families. Therefore, HDLH and ELECT play an integral role in our pedagogy.FLC also uses Toronto Children’s Services’ Early Learning & Care Assessment for Quality Improvement (ELCAQI) as a guide for interactions, programming, and environment.

At FLC our primary obligations are the welfare of our children and their families, and the quality of our service. We provide a safe, happy, and relaxing environment for children and families to foster good feelings and positive self-image. While children are involved in day to day experiences, educators ensure there is a balance in the day within our flexible scheduling where all children’s individual needs are met during and through; active, transitional, quiet, rest, and nutritious meal times. All our menus are in planned in accordance with the Canada Food Guide and reviewed by a registered dietician. Our menus provide a healthy balance of nutritious, appealing and culturally diverse meals.

FLC encourages and supports all educators to partake in continuous professional learning in all aspects of child care, i.e., child and family development, programming, teaching practices, etc. With that and HDLH, our early childhood team has an educated comprehension of how children learn, where they are at in their learning, where they want to further their learning, how they understand their surroundings, and how they form relationships. Our curriculum is based primarily on observations of the children’s development (with the assistance of ELECT) based on their interests. Secondly, our educators look at our families and community aspects to incorporate into our curriculum regularly. In addition, our cook who is part of our educator team partakes in continuous learning regarding the health and nutrition of young children, menu planning and safe food handling.
